Counselling Services for children and young people aged 8-18yrs and adults 18 + based in Newton Abbot, Devon and online Nationally

Hello and Welcome to Faye Westwood Counselling

Our sessions together are tailored to suit your individual needs.

My aim for the therapeutic process is to provide a confidential safe space in my lovely cosy private therapy room in Newton Abbot. I offer a warm compassionate and supportive environment which can allow individuals to feel seen, heard and valued, something that I am passionate about.

I am mother of a large family that have all now grown up, and I understand the challenges that each developmental stage can bring, this has inspired me to work therapeutically with children and young people from the ages of 8-18yrs, I work in a nurturing environment creating a warm, compassionate space where the young people can feel safe and heard, allowing them to express themselves through a choice of creative activities, I support emotional growth and resilience.

Working with Children and Young People

I believe in empowering individuals to make their own choices where possible, and will always gently enquire about likes and dislikes, we’re all individual, and perhaps creativity isn’t for your young person.

My therapeutic approach with young people is tailored to individual requirements, I have experience of working with individuals from all walks of life with a diverse range of backgrounds, alongside my private practice I also work with a local community charity offering affordable counselling and volunteer at a local secondary school working with young people.

Individuals living with specific conditions whether diagnosed or undiagnosed, I see you! I will embrace your individual needs and requirements and work in a way that is as unique as you are, no two people are the same, we’re all individuals and deserve to be seen as such.

I understand that it can be daunting for young people and their caregiver to meet me for the first time, and I can offer extra photos of me in my therapy room before the first session for you to get familiar with the therapy room surroundings.

In the first session I invite caregivers to stay if they would like to, allowing you the opportunity to ask any questions and settle your young person if needed, with the aim to alleviate any concerns / worries you or your young person may have.

Individual Counselling with Adults

I work with the individual, I see you! and work in a way that suits your unique requirements.

Counselling can help you explore your current issues, in a compassionate space, I go at a pace suitable for you, whether that’s led by you or maybe with some gentle encouragement from me.

Counselling can give you the environment you need to explore and work through how you’re feeling in the here and now, whilst working through your past or present issues.

In sessions we can work on how your body holds and reacts to many things including Trauma, Grief and Loss, Depression, Stress and Anxiety. I encourage grounding and regulation awareness in the here and now, which allows you to take away useful techniques that can help you in your everyday life.

In our sessions you will have the opportunity explore your issues at a safe pace, in a compassionate environment and my approach as an Integrative Therapeutic Counsellor can include a flexible framework offering different approaches, that we can collaborate with the deep-rooted foundation being Person-Centred, but I can also integrate other approaches such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) Gestalt and Transactional Analysis Therapy (TA) and Mindfulness.

I can also introduce creatively in sessions with adults, working creatively can be very powerful as it uses our subconscious.

In our sessions together I will provide a calm, warm and empathetic client-centred safe space where our sessions will be a confidential, non-judgemental environment for you to feel able to explore your past or current issues, allowing you to feel heard, understood and valued.
